Louis Licht is recognized for his sustained, energetic, innovative contributions to environmental quality restoration. His pioneering work to harness the phytoremediation capabilities of hybrid poplar trees has led to the capture of toxic materials that would have otherwise continued to compromise our living environment. These pioneering studies have further been converted to a corporate entity, Ecolotree Inc. which has installed specially developed trees in over 45 sites in the United States and Europe to intercept contaminated groundwater or to prevent the entry of percolating water entering hazardous waste burial sites. Dr. Licht is an adjunct faculty member at the University of Iowa. Lou Licht captures the sense of adventurous research and energetic development essential to the harnessing of engineering advances for human welfare.
